Part 3 Hope and Foreshadowing

The main idea of part three was hope. Many bad things happened, Candy's dog was shot and Curly was injured by Lennie, but throughout the chapter hope was the pervading theme. Slim standing up for Lennie and and Carlson trusting them, show that they are finding allies in the farm. This makes the reader believe they just might make it. Another hopeful thing is after Lennie crushed Curly's hand, it doesn't seem like Curly is going to hurt Lennie soon, especially since Slim has decided to be on Lennie's side. The most important ray of hope was when Candy added his help to achieving Lennie and George's dream. If this book has a good ending, then they will manage to achieve their dream which is looking likelier by the minute. But it seems too far fetched for men in there position and it seems more likely that some big event will occur, destroying everything. This chapter was one where it seems like everything is panning out as supposed to and this was a mostly happy chapter, full of puppies, rabbits, and friends at least for Lennie and George. This really makes you wonder, what does this ranch have in store for them next?
