Part 3

I think in part three of Of  Mice and Men the main themes occurring were hope and courage. After candy's dog got shot people told Candy that he could have one of Slim's new puppies to train just like his old dog. candy is still really sad throughout and regretted that he let a 'stranger' kill his dog and that he should have done it himself to get it over with. Next lennie and Curly get in a fight. George talks early on about how Lennie has never laid a finger on George throughout his entire life no matter how many tricks and mean stunts he pulled on lennie. But when Lennie gets in the fight with curly Lennie wants George's help. George knows he can't take curley so lennie pulls through and crushes his hand. I think that when George talked about how Lennnie's never laid a finger on him it was foreshadowing that Lennie can really hurt someone but doesn't have the mind set or is too sensitive to hurt someone.

As I talked about earlier in my blog I thought when George was talking about Lennie I knew he was foreshadowing to something lennie would do since hes strong. I think there will be many other forms of foreshadowing throughout the book which will help us predict the ending.

  1. I agree with exactly what you are saying. There were many events in part 3. Hope is one of the themes because Lennie and George have their American Dream planned out. Courage is a good theme because Candy needed courage just to put through his mind for Carlson to kill the dog. Also, I think that friendship or loyalty should be a theme because Lennie and George, and the rest of their cabin work together. Candy helps out George and Lennie and Slim lets Lennie have a puppy.

  2. I agree with both of you. I think many of these events help prove that Lennie and George are willing to work very hard in order to achieve their dream, "the American Dream." I agree that courage is one of the main themes in this part, but I also think that friendship is an recurring theme throughout this part. There are many new friendships budding, Lennie and the puppies, Candy and George and Lennie, Slim and George. I think these friendships will have some importance in the story, maybe at a later point though, maybe some foreshadowing?
I think that Candy's dog could be a symbol for people's spirits of the time. They are widdled and broken, and probably eventually they just died off.
